Illustrator: Brandon Loving
Posted by Dave Garraway
U.S. based illustrator, Brandon Loving is a digital artist with a clever knack for taking an illustration and adding a surreal twist.
The three illustrations of his all have a similar style, even though they are made using different mediums. They are all done using small and concise strokes to build up the colours for the piece. The first two are digitally produced and they both have a surreal edge to them. The first is a cover for a book, Fantastic Mr. Fox. He has cleverly taken aspects from the book, such as the tail, and mixed them all together to produce a cover that can be enjoyed by both fans and new people to the book. The second illustration is adapted from a clever play on words, BEARD. The choice of person as a subject is to compliment the other aspects of the piece.
The last illustration is a page from his sketchbook; it’s a simple illustration of antlers but a clever positioning makes for an interesting look. The shadows within the antlers are detailed and really bring the piece to life. He obviously takes meticulous care of his work.
