The Art House
Posted by Rachel Berner

Forget Starbucks...

With the ever increasing selection of chain style cafes and bars in Southampton, it is refreshing when you stumble across a place packed with as much individuality as The Art House.

The Art House on Above Bar Street is a community run, not-for-profit venue, which hosts an array of creative workshops and events. For film enthusiasts there is a filmmaking workshop. If languages are your cup of tea then Le Café des Amis is worth popping along to for a little bit of French chatter, and if you just need a bit of a breather from the stresses of everyday life there is always the “stitch n’ bitch” session.

The evidence of the various workshops is displayed around the cafe and gallery. The current exhibition ‘My Southampton’ (27 Sept-27 Nov) displays scenes from the surrounding area, all the work of local photographers.  You can sit back and take it in over a vegetarian friendly lunch and a cuppa (definitely treat yourself to one of the scrummy cakes too!)

Tucked a little further in is the Trash Cocktail Boutique which showcases local handmade crafts and a nice selection of ’pre-loved’ and vintage clothes, available to buy.

So, if you’re looking for coffee with a little more character I suggest you check this little gem out.
